Reseña Biográfica

Costarricense, y descendiente de Jamaicanos por tercera generación, Shirley Campbell estudio Drama, Literatura y creación literaria en el Conservatorio de Castella. Ha trabajado activamente en programas culturales y sociales: como profesora del Conservatorio de Castella, organizando talleres de creación literaria, (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras), dirigiendo programas culturales a través de la asociación para de Desarrollo de la cultura afro costarricense, además de servir  como fundadora del Grupo Cultural y de desarrollo afro costarricense  DADISI.

En 1993, se graduó de Antropóloga de la Universidad de Costa Rica, mas tarde tomo cursos de postrado en Feminismo Africano en La Universidad de Zimbabwe en Harare. Después de vivir en África con su familia, entre  1993 y el 1996 vivió varios años en  El Salvador, Honduras, Jamaica y actualmente reside en la ciudad de Nueva York.

Su educación, trabajo, viajes y el contacto con una gran diversidad de grupos étnicos, encuentran su expresión en la obra de Shirley  Campbell. En su trabajo, revela una gran preocupación  por los niños, gran interés por asuntos de género y un gran orgullo por la cultura negra y su historia. Tiene dos colecciones de poesía publicadas,  en donde a través de sensuales imágenes y un lenguaje conciso, esta poeta aborda temas relacionados con el nacimiento, la muerte, las migraciones, la religión y la familia entre otros.

Luego de la publicación de su primer libro, Campbell ha participado en entrevistas de radio y televisión, conferencias y recitales poéticos en su país e internacionalmente. Además, ha asistido como profesora invitada a diferentes Universidades en Los Estados Unidos, incluidas la Universidad de Mount Holyoky, Universidad de Birmingham en Alabama, y la Universidad de Syracusse en Nueva York.. Actualmente y la par de su trabajo como escritora, se desempeña como consultora independiente en las áreas de genero, VIH/SIDA, Salud Reproductiva y Derechos Humanos.

    Getting Started

    :: Explanatory Note -- This set of content items is being used to demonstrate one way to order content logically and display it on the page. You see here an example of a "flat" hierarchy of content. There is only one level of content items, so we created a Section named "Getting Started" and then we created within that Section a Category with the same name ("Getting Started"). We loaded the content items into the category and then created a Main Menu item named "Getting Started". When we created that Menu Item we chose the "Table - Content Category" format option, which gives us the table layout containing the content items, below. On the Content Items in this Category we have used the Content Items Parameters tab to enable the Item Rating option. Note the Content Item Getting the Most Out of Your Mambo Site demonstrates how to create multi-page content. ::
